Organic Farming – Our 2nd Line of Effort

Nate York, VetREST Farming Director

Nathaniel York, Farming Director

Why do we need a farming director? The U.S. currently is short 1,000,000 farmers and the problem grows as our farmers are retiring and in many cases selling their farms. Nate owns and operates a 20 acre organic farm in Zolfo Springs, Florida. Through Nate and help from his wife, Melissa, we have had several Veterans stay on the farm and heal! In addition, Soldiers from SOCOM in Tampa, Florida, have come down and volunteered on a work project.

Nate is also the Executive Director and founder of Solace International (Solace International). Nate’s humanitarian experience is global and extensive.  In early 2002 Nate traveled to Northern Afghanistan and worked with a program distributing educational supplies for UNICEF.  Later he returned to build two schools for girls in Afghanistan. Nate's passion for helping people has improved lives through projects he created and completed in Liberia, Kenya, Malawi, Indonesia, Nepal and Syria.

Exciting Opportunities!

Currently VetREST is partnering with 2 farms in Florida, 1 in Pennsylvania and our Garden Project in Oregon.  We are looking for people willing to donate land that we can use for pesticide-free farming and to house and teach interested Veterans how to farm so that they can one day operate their own farms.  If you are a Veteran who would like to be involved with our farming effort please contact us.
