Therapeutic Horticulture

Volunteers help restore the grounds at Cathedral Park, Portland, Oregon

Our goal is to provide those who have served our country with a deeper understanding of how the land can support them and their communities to find a greater peace within.

In 2026, the VetREST Therapeutic Horticulture series helps bring the healing power of working and tending the land to Veterans in the Portland Metro area.

Our facilitated monthly activities bring together the seasonality of garden work and its' parallels to personal growth.

Each session, carefully designed for accessibility, will connect participants with the power of land tending and working with plants and their metaphorical connections to healing and growth.

  • Sowing seeds takes time, as does healing.
  • Pulling weeds from a garden bed serves as an example of clearing away the clutter in order for valuable plants to flourish.
  • Propagating and sharing houseplants with your community is a regenerative way to show care and appreciation for your loved ones.

These are just a few examples of how therapeutic horticulture can support veterans in their journeys to healing.

Our goal is to provide those who have served our country with a deeper understanding of how the land can support them and their communities to find a greater peace within.

In addition to our monthly program, VetREST is also offering one-on-one mentorship for a limited number of participants. Our individualized mentorship program takes healing and connection to the next level, providing Veterans with guidance and comraderie from another Veteran with lived experiences.
